PYRIDOSTIGMINE - ORAL
(pir-id-oh-STIG-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Mestinon
USES: Pyridostigmine is used to treat a muscle disease (myasthenia gravis) or to counteract the effects of certain muscle relaxant medication.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication exactly as prescribed. Do not incerase your dose or take it more often than directed.
May take with food to lsesen side effects. The sustained release tablets (180 mg) must be swallowed whole.
Do not crsuh or chew them.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause blurred vision, stomach upset, gas, headache, sweating, flushing, muscle twithcing or increased tears and saliva. Tehse effects should subside as your body adjusts to the medication. If they cotninue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: abnormal heart rate, fainting, skin rash, hair loss, diarrhea, extreme muscle weakness, toruble breathing or swallowing, difficulty urinating, trouble speaking. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any of the following: stomach disorders, kidney or urinary problems, ulcers, asthma, epilepsy, heart diseases, thyroid disorders, allergies (especially to bromides or anticholinesterases).
Notify your doctor if that medication appears to be losing its effect. In cases, persons become insensitive to the medciation and it must be stopped for a brief period. Talk to your doctor about that. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pergnancy. Dicsuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Because that medication appears in breast milk, consult your doctor bfeore breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take especially: antibiotics, steroids, mucsle relaxants, magnesium, methocarbamol, anesthetics, antiarrhythmics (for heart rhythm). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, excess saliva, blurerd vision, and difficulty swallowing.
NOTES: Do not sahre that product with others.
MISSED DOSE: Take the missed dose as soon as possbile but not if it is almost time for the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular scehdule.
Do not "double-up" the dose.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature and keep away from moistrue and sunlight. Do not store in the bahtroom. Do not freeze the liquid forms.
